George W. Zaharako, 81, of Franklin Street died at 4:50 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2000, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
He was the owner of Olympia, a former dairyman and farmer. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and the original Bartholomew County Fair Board. He was a former city councilman and a World War II Army veteran.
Funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at Myers Funeral Service, Reed & Jewell Chapel, on 25th Street with the Rev. Dennis W. Aud officiating. Calling will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Bartholomew County, Love a Child in care of First United Methodist Church or Volunteers in Medicine.
Mr. Zaharako was born in Columbus Dec. 21, 1918, the son of Gust and Laura Trisler Zaharako. He married Beatrice Taylor May 15, 1944, in Spartansburg, S.C. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters, Betsy Panayides of Indianapolis and Linda Hallum of Columbus; sons, Joe Zaharako of Carmel and John Zaharako of Columbus; a sister, Helen Heagy of Columbus; and grandchildren, Tina Panayides of Boston, Matt Panayides of New York City, Andy Panayides and Jason Crimmins, both of Indianapolis, Sarah Zaharako of San Francisco, Susan Zaharako of Cleveland, Ryan Zaharako of Austin, Texas, and Kelly Crimmins, Laura Zaharako and Katie Hallum, all of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Manuel and Charlie Zaharako, and a sister, Mary Rogers.
