Daniel Austin Keena was born in Jasper county, Indiana, on May 4, 1861, and died at his home in Eagle Grove, on May 9, 1918, being 57 years and 5 days of age. His death came as a great surprise to the many friends, who, though informed that the deceased was not in good health since the death of his son by accident a year ago, yet were accustomed to seeing Mr. Keena upon the streets and had no intimation that his health was in such a critical condition.

On March 26 [1885] the departed was united in marriage with Miss Viola Braffle. [Broeffle] To this union seven children were born: Three sons, Eddie, who was killed in an accident on May 5, 1917; John and James, and four daughters: Mrs. Ida Flathery, Mrs. Nellie Solburg, Mrs. Nina Mills, and Agnes Keena. These, all with one brother and two sisters, were present at the funeral services.

Mr. Keena had lived in Eagle Grove for the past 36 years. Here he was married and his children were born. Here he has lived his life of mature years. Here he has made the friends which everyone who lives such years in one place always makes. These will miss him and will join in most tender sympathy with the relatives who mourn the passing of one whose place cannot be filled in the home circle.

Funeral services were held in the Baptist church, the sermon being by Rev. J. G. Eaton.
