In 1860 he, his parents, his three siblings, a farm laborer, 16-year-old Lemon Grimes, and his paternal grandmother lived on a farm in Jenner Township, Somerset County, PA. His father owned real property worth $1500 and personal property valued at $280.

In 1870 he and his mother and four siblings lived there. His mother owned real property worth $1200 and personal property valued at $370.

In 1880 he and his mother and two siblings lived there. His brother George and his family lived on the farm next door.

In 1900 he and his wife and their two children lived in a place they were renting in Elderton, PA. He worked as a minister of the gospel.

In 1910 he, Tillie, their two children, and his mother's sister Tillie lived in a house they owned, mortgage free, at 226 Ohio Street in Johnstown, OH. He was a retired minister and his aunt worked doing odd jobs.

In 1920 he and his wife and their two children lived in the same house. Both of their children worked as public school teachers.
