JOSEPH LOGOLUSO DAMIANI was born January 29, 1909 in Bisceglie, Bari, Puglia, Italy, to Cosmo Damiani (1882 - 1972) and Lucia Logoluso Damiani (1885-1973).

Joe was the second of nine children who include:
Flora Damiani Ciani (1908 - 1994)
Pola Damiani Evans Holcomb (1911 - 1996)
Rosa Maria Damiani Pastore (1913 - 1990)
Lorraine Elisa Damiani White (1915 - 2001)
Virginia Damiani Schoolmaster Goulart (1917 - 1992)
Vincent James Damiani (1919 - 2002)
Clara C. Damiani Gallup (1921 - 1984), and
Albert Damiani (1924 - 1982)

In 1920, at the age of eleven, Joseph, his parents and 4 siblings (Clara & Albert were not born yet and two of the other children were left behind ), left Italy on the S.S. Independence for the United States, settling in Fresno, California. It was there that he met Isabell Mastro, and soon afterwards, took her out on their first date. Isabell wasn't allowed to go out on a date without being chaperoned, so they were chaperoned by Julia Catino Cocola, Isabell's maternal aunt. The three of them went to the Hardy's Theater in Fresno to see the movie, "Over the Hill". That was the beginning of their long life together.

Joe and Isabell were married on April 14, 1940, after Joe had a house built for his soon-to-be wife. Their first child, Lucille Ann, was born on December 20, 1940, followed by Lillian Marie, born on July 21, 1942. Seven years later, JoAnn Marie, their last child, was born on August 10, 1949. While Joe wanted very badly to have a boy, he had to wait until after his three daughters were married and had their children, for those boys. Ironically, each daughter gave birth to only one child--all boys: Todd Armas, Joe's first born grandson in 1967; followed by Eddie Fanucchi in 1968; and Joel Cigan in 1977. Joe was so proud of his three grandsons!

Joe was an active member of the Italian Community of Fresno's West Side. He was also a fundraiser for St. Alphohsus Catholic Church and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, both of Fresno; and Boys' and Girls' Towns of Italy, founded in 1944 in Italy, to care for Italian war orphans. Joe received the Michelangelo Award for his work on behalf of Boys' Towns of Italy. Joe was also appointed by President Lyndon Johnson to the selective Service Board of Central California.

Joseph was the owner of Joe L. Damiani Co. Insurance; Calway Packing Company; Pacific Door and Cabinet Co.; and Damco Finance Co.; all of Fresno.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 47 years, Isabel Mastro Damiani; three daughters their spouses and sons, Lucille Ann Damiani (Edward Leroy ) Fanucchi, and grandson, Edward Darrel Fanucchi; Lillian Marie Damiani (Harvey Allen) Armas, and grandson Joseph Todd Armas; and JoAnn Marie Damiani (Bruce Craig Cigan, and grandson Joel Craig Cigan. Surviving also, are a brother Vincent James Damiani of San Leandro; sisters, Flora Damiani Ciani, and Rose Damiani Pastore, both of Fresno; and sisters Virginia Damiani Goulart of Selma; Lorraine Damiani White of Visalia; and Pola Damiani Holcomb of Pasadena. Also surviving are his three great grandchildren: Luca Antonio Fanucchi, Maria Sofia Fanucchi, and Lilianna Marie Armas.

Joe was preceded in death by brother, Albert Damiani of San Leandro and sister, Clara Damiani Gallup, of Fresno.

Cause of death: Congestive heart failure.
