Later the family moved to Magees Creek in old Pike County, Mississippi. Peter married Miss Sarah Carr December 25, 1832 in Amite Co., Mississippi. This marriage resulted in ten children, all born in Pike County.
He and four of his sons are Civil War Veterans. The boys were among the CSA defenders during the siege of Vicksburg, Mississippi.
In 1867, he brought his family to Texas. They settled near Spring Creek in current day Richardson, Texas. Sarah died in 1881 and by 1886, Peter had divided his farm among his sons and moved into Dallas.
