Jane was daughter of James and Jane Butcher Stephenson. She was married to John James Montz on April 30, 1846 in Marietta, Ohio., he was killed in the battle of Vicksburg, Mississippi on May 14, 1863.

Mrs. Jane S. Montz, a pioneer settler of Johnson county and a woman who at one time was quite well known here, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Simon Young, in Bethany, last Sunday.
She would have been ninety-one years of age had she lived until December and her death was due to age. One other daughter survives, Mrs. George Webb of Seattle, Wash., formerly of Tecumseh.
Mrs. Montz was a splended christian lady, having been a member of the Christian church for years. The funeral was held at the Young home, Tuesday afternoon, and the interment was in the Wyuka cemetery, Lincoln.
