Wenzel Maly was born 01 Nov 1862, near Manitowoc, WI. His father, Johann, a farmer, was born, Feb 22, 1810,in the county of Lietmeritz, Bohemia, Austria. He emigrated to the USA in the spring of 1854 and took over a claim near Mantiowoc. There he married Franziska Skala, born, Mar. 25, 1834 in the county of Pisel, Bohemia. Both lived there for 12 years as farmers. In the spring of 1866, they moved together with several families in ox-pulled wagons through the states of IL, and IA via Council Bluffs to Omaha, NE. From there they continued on to West Point, Cuming county, where they arrived in the early fall of 1866. They settled in a settlement in St. Charles Township which they never left again.
The couple had several children: Maria,Wenzel,Franz, Katharina,Anna,Karolina,and Klara. Anna entered the religious order of the Poor Francisicans in Lafayette, ID. Johann Maly died there on Dec. 15 1891 and Franziska on July 16, 1916. Both are buried in the cemetery of St. Charles. On Aug. 30 1887, Wenzel Maly married Katharina Schuth, daughter of the couple Carl Schuth and Margarete Pitrich. She gave birth to a daughter, Katharina, but died in child birth, Katharina later became the wife of Heinrich Gosen.
On Nov. 5 1889, Wenzel Maly remarried Maria Harstick, daughter of the Catholic, Heinrich Harstick and Magdalena Wortmann, born March 22, 1870 in St.Charles. This marriage produced the following children: Franz who died as a child;Heinrich born Feb. 1 1893, physican, married to Ethel Ryan, Magadalena, born, Jan 21, 1896, school nurse of the religious order of the Holy Franziskus;Johann, born Sept. 28, 1898, married to Maria Grothe; Franziska, born Dec. 14 1902, married to Aloys Ortmeier.
Wenzel Maly died on Jan, 25 1933 at the feast of Pauli Bestebrona.His funeral service and burial on the cemetery on Jan. 27, well attended by the public, was conducted by Pastor Grobbel, assisted A. Potschang and Otto Zillig.
