In 1997, Sister Sheila came to New York to reside at St. Dominic's Convent and three years later became a resident of Siena Hall Infirmary there.
Born in St. Louis, she entered the Dominican Congregation of Our Lady of the Rosary in Sparkill in 1933 and made her final vows in 1940. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Sheila. She earned a bachelor's degree in English from Webster College.
She is survived by a brother, Brother William McCarthy, S.M., of San Antonio, Texas. A Funeral Mass was offered Oct. 19 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel at Dominican Convent. Burial was in St. Agnes Cemetery in Sparkill.
