Son of Orville A. and Edna Smith. Philip lived his entire life in Clearwater on the Smith family farm. His grand father homesteaded the original 80 acres when he came to Minnesota after the Civil War. Philip worked the farm with horses. He married Margaret Laughton in 1925. They had two children.
