Burton Martin who has been sick for some time with what the doctor called cancerous abscesses, died on March 21, 1901. Mr. Martin was born in Oswego county, New York, March 7, 1845; in 1855 he moved with his parents to Illinois. In that state he was married to Miss Ella Duncan. They moved to Oak Valley in 1878 where they have since resided. Two children were born to them, Roy, 28 years of age and Belle 19; both are living at home. The deceased has one sister living in Oak Valley, Mrs. Benjamin Burton, and another in Menahga. The funeral was held in the Union church, Rev. Andrews of Hewitt preaching the funeral sermon. The remains were buried in the Oak Valley cemetery. He was an unassuming man, a kind friend and neighbor, attending strictly to his own affairs. The large funeral procession attested better than words the high esteem in which he was held by his townsmen.
