She was born to the late Arthur and Anna (Malueg) Schilling on March 17, 1918, in Wausau. On June 18, 1938, she married Cyril Weinke, in Wausau. He preceded her in death Sept. 6, 2003. Laura enjoyed baking and crafting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Ladies Aide at Salem Lutheran Church and the Bakers Dozen Homemakers Club.
For more than 30 years, she worked at The Diner, cooking lunch specials and baking pies.
Survivors include her children, Sandra (Don) Schultz of Oostburg, Sharon (Bob) Dale of Wausau and Steven (Karen) Weinke of Wausau; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many great-stepgrandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several great-great-stepgrandchildren. She also is survived by her sister, Lucille Smith; brother, Melvin (Arlene) Schilling; sister-in-law, Gertrude Schilling; and many nieces, nephews and friends, including two very special friends, Phyllis Cooper and Elsie Campbell.
Laura was from a large family, and was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Elder, Raymond, Arvin, Harvey and Leonard; sisters, Gladys Winters, Erma Kohler, Ruth Edelburg and Mildred Schilling; and one stepgranddaughter, Sharon DeGuzman.
Randy Will, Laurie Meyer, Stephanie Schultz, Nicholas and Ryan Weinke and Janine Lindblom will proudly be her pallbearers.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 703 Flieth St., Wausau, with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Visitation will begin Thursday, Jan. 27 at Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and continue Friday at the church beginning at 10 a.m. until the time of services. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau.
