Emily (Borges) Borba of Dartmouth passed away Friday, December 18, 2009 after a brief illness in her home. She was the wife of the late Frank Borba.
Mrs. Borba was born in Nespreira, Portugal, the daughter of the late Antonio and Marie (Ventura) Borges. She was a member of the Smith Neck Friends Meeting House. She was the President of the New Bedford Board of Realtors in the 1970s. Previously, she worked at the Green Diner from 1942 until 1952 and she ran Salvador's Ice Cream. She loved dancing, traveling, being a writer, and a poet. She spent Many happy times with her family.
She is survived by two sons, Paul and Anthony Borba of Arizona; two daughters, Geraldine Hawes and Delores Borba of Dartmouth; one brother Joseph Avila of New Bedford; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and one great great grandson. She was the mother of the late Frank "Hank" Borba and grandmother of the late Neil J. Borba and Rhys A. Jenkins.
Her funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at 11AM in the Smith Neck Friends Meeting House, 594 Smith Neck Rd., Dartmouth. Visiting hours Tuesday 6-8pm in the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial in Smith Neck Friends Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the Rhys and Neil Scholarship Fund c/o Smith Neck Friends Meeting House 594 Smith Neck Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748.
