Mr. Duerr started a blacksmith shop in Leslie, Mo., in 1906. He later operated an auto repair shop in conjunction with the blacksmith shop. He followed the blacksmith trade for 56 years, going into retirement because of ill health.
He married Amanda Remmert in Leslie in 1907. This union was blessed with one son, August.
Mr. Duerr was an active member of the Leslie Methodist Church. He served his community as a member of the town board, and was a member of the local school board for many years. He was interested in his community and the young people.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Elizabeth Roehrs, and three brothers, William, George and August.
He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Amanda of Leslie; one son, August; two granddaughters, Jeannine and Nancy; and one daughter-in-law, Louise of Ferguson; five sisters, Millie Frolker, Anna Bauche, Ida Holman, and Nora Wehmueller of Gerald and Clara Blaue of Sedalia; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Leslie Methodist Church with interment in the church cemetery.
