ANDERSON, SC - Betty Dye Antonakos, wife of the late Milton Constantine Antonakos, passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at NHC of Mauldin.
Born in Elberton, GA, on June 11, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Lucy Jane Gaines Dye and Roy Dye. She was a communicant of Grace Episcopal Church where through the years she had served in numerous capacities; namely being instrumental in the founding of the Grace Church Annual Soup Luncheon and the Grace Church Annual BBQ. Additionally, Mrs. Antonakos was an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels and Hospice of the Upstate as long as has her health permitted. Mrs. Antonakos retired after thirty years as a Teacher with Anderson County Head Start and was an avid bridge player.
Survivors include her son, Milton C. "Melet" Antonakos, Jr. and wife, Kimberley Antonakos of Greenville, SC; grandchildren: Olivia, Mills, and Anastacia Antonakos, all of Greenville, SC, Angela McCown Welker and husband, Chancy Welker of Charleston, SC, and Maria McCown of Clemson, SC. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and beloved husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jane Antonakos McCown; a grandson, Matthew McCown; and her siblings: J.W. Dye, Wilbur Dye, Bronson Dye, Arnold Dye, Thomas Dye, Alton Dye, Thelma D. Crumm, Jenelle D. Beasley, and Sara D. Adams.
The Funeral Service will be at 3:30 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2011, at Grace Episcopal Church conducted by The Rev'd John B. Hardaway, IV. A committal service will be held in Old Silver Brook Cemetery. Nephews will serve as Honorary Escort.
The family will receive friends at Grace Episcopal Church from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 30, 2011.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, 711 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624, or to Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 285, Anderson, SC 29622.
