DEATH OF HOMESTEADER
Wm. Downhill, a homesteader who come west from New Bedford, Mass., in May last, passed away Friday at the St. Paul's Presbytery temporary hospital, a victim of typhoid. The late Mr. Downhill was thirty-eight years of age and married, his widow and children are in New Bedford, not having followed him West.

He was a machinist in the east but since coming out here has worked around town while not on his homestead. Mr. Downhill was an Englishman by birth, having come from near Manchester. He made his home while in Saskatoon, with Mr. and Mrs. F. Mather (Frederick), who came west at the same time and who had the greatest regard for him. The funeral took place this afternoon. Rev. D. T. Davies (Douglas Talbot) officiating. The pall-bearers today were: Robert and John Edwards, S. Leckey and R. J. Palmer.

He married, in England, Elizabeth Crossland, they had three children William Henry (1889-1976), Wilfred (1892-1978, & Eva "Anna" (1897-1980). (See 1910 census below). After his death, she m. (2) Samuel Baron of New Bedford, MA, he was a Music Professor and they eventually moved to northern California.

Family lore has it that three brothers, James, William & Frederick came to the USA. All that has passed down is that "One went to Canada, one went to California & one was in the Massachusetts State Guard." Thus we have William, Frederick & James in that order.
