Along with her mother, at age 8, she arrived in the United States (at the Port of Boston) on June 10, 1921 and was reunited with her father in Milwaukee, Wisconsin who immigrated to the United States in June 1913 (just months after her birth).
Her sister Irene died at age 1 in Jan. 1925.
She attended Pulaski High School through 11th grade (1930).
Tillie, age 17, married Andrew Szymanski (1895-1975) on Dec. 1, 1930 at St. John Kanty Church in Milwaukee. He was a carpenter by trade. They had one daughter, Shirley Jo-Hannah, born Sept 9, 1931. They owned and operated a tavern during the 1930's. In Aug. 1933, when Tillie was 20, her father died of cancer of the pancreas.
Due to spousal abuse, she was granted a divorce from Andrew on March 30, 1939.
Tillie married Harry Serkowski (b. Oct 1903) on April 6, 1940 in a civil ceremony performed by Justice Carl Hampel (also his second marriage) at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. They had one son, Harry Chester, born July 23, 1944.
Tillie was a happy person during her second marriage. She almost always had a big smile and a jovial laugh. She and Harry had a home on Maple Street in West Allis.
Her first grandchild, Roy Luecht, was born in July 1952.
Aunt Tillie suffered a serious heart attack in Jan 1981 but recovered. She died after another heart attack in Jan 1985 at age 71.
Survived by her grieving, devoted husband Harry, children Shirley (Leroy) Luecht and Harry Serkowski, five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren (her youngest great-grandson, Jason Luecht, was born just before her death on Jan. 5, 1985). Her husband Harry died just months after her in May 1985. Also survived by her sister Sophie Dombrowski and brothers Chet, Ray and George (Millie) Gadzalinski and by sister-in-law Loretta Gadzalinski. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
