CENTILLA – ROBERTA of Portage . Mrs. Centilla passed away Tuesday morning, November 21, 2006 at Rose Arbor Hospice Residence. She was born August 21, 1917 in Grand Rapids the daughter of the late EDWARD and LOUISE (SCHMIDT) ESCH. On May 10, 1941, she was united in marriage to L. GERALD CENTILLA in Grand Rapids, who preceded her in death on September 13, 1994.
Also preceding her in death are one daughter, MARY SHARP in 1986; two brothers; and one sister. Surviving are five children, THOMAS CENTILLA of Portage, ROBERT (MARY JO) CENTILLA of Devore, CA, GORDON (CAROL) CENTILLA of Ft. Myers, FL, SHARON VALENTINE of Portage; 18 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, LOUIS (MARY ANN) ESCH of New York and FR. JOSEPH PETTIT of Grand Rapids; one sister, MARY ANN PETTIT of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Mrs. Centilla will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1150 W. Centre Avenue, with Father Kevin Covert, celebrant. Interment will follow in South Portage Cemetery. Friends may visit with family from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday (tomorrow) at Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Portage Chapel, 411 E. Centre Avenue, with a rosary at 7:30 p.m. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be directed to Right to Life.
