Betty Harrell McKown passed away peacefully on January 26, 2011. She was 91 years old. Betty was predeceased by her husband, Paul D. McKown Sr. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Darrell McKown and his wife Sarah, Susan Fowlkes and her husband Meade, Jane Fuchs and her husband Bob. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 4 step-great-grandchildren.

Betty, the daughter of Cleon and Mabel Harrell, was a proud native of Princess Anne County and her efforts were tireless to preserve the history of her beloved county. She was an active member of the Witchduck Garden Club and Civic League and spent many years as secretary of Virginia Seedsman Association. Betty was a member of Kempsville Baptist Church for over 70 years and a faithful member of her Sunday School class. Along with her civic activities, Betty devoted herself to her family. They will remember countless Sunday dinners where the food was served with love by Betty and the table was host to lengthy spirited discussions. She was known as "Cookie Grandmother" as she loved to bake cookies and share them with loved ones and friends alike. Betty's smile and friendly nature were well known to all who knew her. Her life was a true example of Christian charity and love.

A visitation will be held Sunday, January 30 at Rosewood-Kellum from 3-5 pm. The funeral will be held Monday, January 31 at Kempsville Baptist Church at 2 pm, with private burial following. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice. Please share your love and condolences with the family at www.kellumfuneralhome.com.
