Elmyr de Hory was born in Hungary and died on the Spanish Island of Ibiza.He was thought to be by many people in the Art World and Law Enforcement Agencies throughout Europe and America - to be one of the greatest art forgers ever.
Elmyr early life he studied Art in Germany - during the Second World War he became involved with a British Journalist and was arrested suspected of spying. He was later released, but within a year of his release he was arrested again and sent to a Concentration Camp for being an homosexual and Jewish.
Elmyr was severely beaten at the concentration camp and was transferred to a Prison Hospital in Berlin - he later escaped from the Prison Hospital.
In 1946 -after the second world war, Elmyr moved to Paris with every intention of becoming a Famous Artist. He quickly discovered he could make accurate copies of Noted Works Of Art by Famous Artists.These fake copies were sold to many collectors and art galleries and some remain to this day, being undetected forgeries in many collections.
A very colourful career was to follow with forgeries of Elmyr's work being bought and exhibited by many famous Galleries. He was pursued by Police Authorities throughout Europe and America during his lifetime activities as an art forger.He died on the Spanish Island of Ibiza in 1976.
