He was well known with the Red Cross and cut the ribbon on the center when it opened at the Snowden Building in Fredericksburg. During the War he was in a MASH unit and frequently donated blood to the injured. He gave over 32 gallons of blood during his lifetime. In 1989 he helped raise the age limit for blood donors.
He is survived by his wife Natalie, son Thomas, daughter Ellen, children and grandchildren.
