Wife of Joseph Gillette and mother of his seven children.

Joseph was killed in the battle of Bloody Brook, on September 18, 1675. The Gillette family had settled in the ill-fated village of Deerfield just months earlier, probably in the spring.

The destruction at Bloody Brook led to the immediate abandonment of the village. "The surviving inhabitants retired to Hatfield and other places. . . . [B]y the spring of 1682 Joseph Gillett's widow Elizabeth (Hawkes) was also dead, after having married, (2) 16 Dec. 1680, as his second wife, Nathaniel Dickinson of Hatfield, Mass.; and at that date her seven children were living."
