Sister Rosalie Gilson, O.P., who served as a social worker and educator, died Jan. 15 at Siena Hall Infirmary in Dominican Convent, Sparkill. She was 82.

Sister Rosalie was a social worker from 1974 to 1998. She served in Manhattan at Catholic Home Bureau, 1981-1987, and Encore Community Services, 1993-1995. She also served in Brooklyn, Long Island and New Jersey.

She taught at St. Helena's, the Bronx, 1951-1957; Cathedral High School, Manhattan, 1959-1962 and 1971-1972; St. Helena's/Msgr. Scanlan High School, the Bronx, 1962-1968; and Albertus Magnus, Bardonia, 1957-1959 and 1968-1970.

She also taught in Brooklyn and was principal at a school in Queens.

Born in New York City, she entered the Dominican Sisters of Sparkill in 1946 and professed final vows in 1953.

She held a bachelor's in education from Fordham University, and master's degrees in Latin from St. John's University, in Spanish from Hunter College and in social work from SUNY Stony Brook.

She is survived by a sister, Nancy Gilson. A Funeral Mass was offered Jan. 19 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel, Dominican Convent, with burial in St. Agnes Cemetery, Sparkill.
