SUNBURY, N.C. - Laura Hollowell Asbell , 99, of Route 1, a retired school teacher and homemaker, died Friday night, May 14, in Albemarle Hospital, Elizabeth City.
Mrs. Asbell was born in Chowan County, the daughter of the late Baker Melvin and Mrs. Annie Byrum Hollowell. She was the wife of the late George D. Asbell and was a member of Beulah Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Cyr of Alton Bay, N. H .; three sisters, Minnie Bateman of Elizabeth City and Mary Evans and Jennie Asbell , both of Edenton; a brother, Bertram Hollowell of Tyner; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Beulah Baptist Church by the Rev. Ron Parr. Burial will follow in Damascus Christian Church Cemetery. Friends may join the family at the home of her grandson, David Asbell , Route 1, Box 281, Sunbury. Miller Funeral Home, Gatesville, is handling funeral arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Beulah Baptist Church.
