Funeral services for Joseph Markvicka, 72, who died at the Clarkson Hospital at Omaha Wednesday, May 21, were held Saturday, May 24, at 9:30 a.m. at the Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic church at Choynice northeast of Ashton. The Rev. Anthony Figlerski offered the requiem high mass.
Burial was at the Lady of Mount Carmel cemetery. Pallbearers were Donnie and Elvin Markvicka and LaVern Woitalewicz of Farwell, Edwin Woitalewicz and Milton Ambrose of St. Paul and Millard Abel of Rockville.
Joseph Markvicka was born near Posen, now Farwell, on May 8, 1880, the son of Mike and Mary Markvicka. He grew to manhood and attended schools there. In 1908 he moved to Ashton and started farming. In 1913 he married Mary Woitalewicz, and eight children were born to them.
He farmed until last April 22 and then entered the Clarkson hospital for treatment.
His parents, brothers, Rudolph and Lonnie [sic - Loddie]; sister, Mary; and wife, Mary, preceded him in death. His wife's death occurred on April 21, 1949.
He is survived by his children, Al of Loup City, Delphie, Arnold and Danny of Ashton, Ralph of Ft. Jay, N.Y., Mrs. Edmund Lewandowski and Mrs. Albin Wroblewski of Loup City, and Mrs. Leonard Lewandowski of Farwell; his brothers, Mike, Stanley, Frank and Jim of St. Paul, Adolph of Farwell and Martin of North Loup; his sisters, Mrs. Abe Voss, Huntingdon, Tenn., Mrs. Anna Benson, Boulder, Colo., Mrs. Ed Ambrose of St. Paul, Mrs. John Abel, Rockville and Mrs. Charlie Hanson of Farwell; and 14 grandchildren.
