Elam Milby enrolled on the 18th day of September 1861 as a Private in Company E 13th Regiment Ky Infantry Volunteer of the Civil War in Greensburg, Kentucky commanded by Captain Thomas O Moore. He was honorably discharged at Louisville, Kentucky on the 12th day of January 1865. He lived near Summersville, Green County, Kentucky. His personal description at enlistment was as follows: Height 5' 2", fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, occupation as a farmer. He was born December 25, 1841 in Green County, Kentucky. (note conflicting birth dates).

He was enrolled at Greensburg, Kentucky for 3 years and is expected: on roll from enrollment to February 25, 1862; Absent sick at home March and April 1862; Absent due to guarding bridge on the L & N Railroad; May and June 1862 present; March 1863 detached; April 1863 on extra duty; March 1864 Absent; September and October 1864, absent detached at Military telegraph office in Bowling Green, Ky.; October 1864 extra duty; November 1864 absent. Mustered out January 12, 1865 at Louisville, Ky. He was a Private from organization to August 4, 1864 then Corporal.

During his military service he contracted measles which injured his hearing and eye sight and was treated for this illness on December 1, 1861. About the 15th day of January 1862 at the Green River Bridge in Taylor County, Kentucky he contracted rheumatism and has treated in the Camp hospital at Greensburg, Ky., from about the 1st day of February 1862 till about the middle of said month and was treated by the regiment Surgeon.

ELAM MILBY was born December 25, 1840, died June 3, 1926. He is buried in the family cemetery near Bloyds Crossing, Green County, Ky. He enlisted September 18, 1861 at Camp Andy Johnson, Greensburg, Ky. Milby was a Corporal in the 13th Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Infantry. Company E until his discharge January 12, 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.

In his pension papers he named his wife Nancy Ellen Cantrell who he married on August 25, 1865 at Mauckport, Indiana and that he was the father of the following children:

John J. Milby June 16, 1868 and died July 15, 1869;
Peter D. Nov. 16, 1869,
Nathan June 3, 1871,
Thomas April 29, 1873;
Martha S. Feb 24, 1875;

Ben and Sarah Nov. 16, 1878;
Malissa Margaret March 18, 1881;
Nancy E. Jan 1, 1885 and
