Clifford P. Painter, 91, of the 3600 block of Henrico St., died Jan. 22, 2002, in a local hospital.
A native of Alleghany County, Va., he retired from International Union of Operating Engineers as a crane operator and was a member of Park Place Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Ruby G. Painter; a son, Stuart A. Vest and wife Katherine of Poquoson, Va.; two sisters, Inez Sheppard of Richmond and Dorothy Davis of Covington, Va.; six grandchildren, Teresa Crawford of Hampton, Stuart A. Vest Jr. of Newport News, Timothy Vest and Christopher Vest of Poquoson, Tad Vest of York County and Norman Drake of Virginia Beach; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Carolyn Painter Drake and a brother, Bill Painter.
A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by the Rev. Richard J. Conrod with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
