Mary Clayton Alvey, 89, of 6904 Kentucky 56, Owensboro, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. She was born in Curdsville, was a homemaker and was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Her first husband, Charlie Clayton, died in 1979, and her second husband, Adrian Alvey, died in 1998. Survivors include four sons, Bob Clayton, John Clayton and Joe Bill Clayton, all of Owensboro, and Jimmy Clayton of Ashbyburg; five daughters, Jean Abell, Joan Payne, Joyce Willis and Judy Grant, all of Owensboro, and Janice Smith of Sorgho; 36 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Bill Calhoun of Owensboro; and three sisters, Lillian Calhoun of Owensboro, Muriel Mattingly of Curdsville and Bessie Alexander of Newman.
Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in St. Joseph. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Haley-McGinnis & Owensboro Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
