George was born to John & Mary (Cruickshank) Forsyth in Mill of Dumbreck, Scotland. George came to Franklin, Minnesota in 1886 and worked at his brother John's flour mill. John had immigrated to America a few years earlier. John, George, C.W. Woodbury, Peter Henry and J.A. Bergley started the first roller flour mill in Renville County.

By 1890 George was a miller & manager of the mill. George received a gold medal at the 1893 Chicago World's Fair for flour he milled at his Mill in Franklin. June 23, 1894 George married Bertha (Bundy) of Franklin. They raised John's three children who were orphaned in 1894, then raised 7 more children of their own. The oldest, not listed here is Isabelle Charlotte Forsyth, b. 1895 MN, d. 1984 CA, who married Fred Schlueter.

George disposed of the milling interests in 1902 & engaged in contracting & building. In 1904 he bought 102 acres of farm land and subsequently built a house, barn & silo on the property.
