For more than 25 years, John was employed as a machinist at Faye Scott Industries in Dexter. For several years, John and Alice have spent their winters in Lake Wales, and their summers at their camp in Sangerville. John served in the Army National Guard in Newport for three years. He and Alice were long time members of the Lords and Ladies Square Dance Club and danced at many places throughout the state.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Alice L. Hurlburt of Newport and Lake Wales; two sons, Vaughn Hurlburt of Hampton, Va., Dennis Hurlburt of Danville, Calif.; three daughters, Beulah Hanson of Eliot, Charlene Burbury of Whitinsville, Mass., Janice Moores of Newport; one brother, George Hurlburt of Farmington; one sister, Rena Fernald of Lake Wales; 18 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His son John Gailen Hurlburt predeceased him in 1990.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, June 7, 2004, at the Brown Funeral Home, 34 High St., Newport, with Pastor Al Worden officiating. (Morning Sentinel 6.2.2004)
