Mrs. Florence Evelyn Atwell, 82, of Chapman Dam Road, Clarendon, died Thursday, March 16, 1989, at the residence of her son, Arthur, in Sheffield. She had been ill for several months. Born April 11, 1906, in Forest County, a daughter of the late Orris and Dillie Longstreth Walters, she had lived in the Clarendon area for about 60 years. She attended Sheffield Free Methodist Church and was a member of the Missionary Society. She had been employed for 19 years at Interlectric Corp, retiring in 1969.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Everett A. Atwell, on January 11, 1988. They had celebrated their 65th anniversary in July of 1987.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Melvin, in 1975; two grandsons, James and Melvin Atwell Jr., nine brothers, and two sisters.
Surviving are four daughters, the Rev. Evelyn (Mrs. Bruce Crossley) of Lake Wales, FL; Mrs. Twlia Leictenberger of Brookston, Mrs. Esther Haight and Mrs. Raymond (Ella) Blum, both of Clarendon; three sons, Harold Atwell of Council Bluffs, Iowa; the Rev. Elton Atwell of Highspire, PA; and Arthur Atwell of Sheffield; 35 grandchildren and several great granchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the Peterson-Blick Funeral Home. Rev. John Coppock, pastor of the Marienville and Newmansville Free Methodist Churches, and the Rev. Norman Hornburg of Cherry Grove officiated. Burial was in the Newmansville Cemetery.
