Funeral services for Etha Plunkett Carter, 95, of Gore, OK, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, February 14, 2011 at the Gore United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Buttram officiating. Burial will be in Smith-Plunkett Cemetery at Gore, OK, under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.
Etha Plunkett Carter was born February 13, 1915 in Gore, OK, the daughter of John and Montie (Harrison) Plunkett and died February 10, 2011 in Muskogee. She was a lifelong area resident. Etha graduated from Gore High School and Northeastern State University. She was a school teacher at Bailey, Notchitown and Gum Springs and retired from teaching in 1980 after teaching for forty-two years.
She married Benjamin Walter Carter in 1950 in Fort Smith, AR. She was a member of Gore United Methodist Church, past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, and past President of American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, James and wife, Polly Plunkett, Arthur Plunkett, Clyde and wife, Myrtle Plunkett, Ira and wife, Lorraine Plunkett, Howard and wife, Margaret Plunkett, Hamilton and wife, Claudie Plunkett; sisters, Mildred Stockstill and husband, Clyde, and Evelyn Plunkett.
Survivors include her daughter, Montie and husband, Tom Montgomery of Muskogee, OK; two grandchildren, Hailey Montgomery of Muskogee, OK, Tommy and wife, Sarah Montgomery of Chicago, IL; and numerous special nieces and nephews.
