Born Ludwig Piatkowski in Goworowo, Poland [Ostroleckie province, 126 km NNE of Warsaw, 22 km from Ostrolecka], Louis was one of four sons and four daughters of Franciszek Piatkowski and Mary Anna Dumata, who were (at least) second-generation farmers. They were married (date unknown) in Holy Cross Church in Goworowo. His mother, Mary died on January 26, 1921. Louis' three brothers were: Anthony, Stanley, and John. His four sisters were: Helen Bednarowicz, Anna Dudziec, Antonia Winczkewicz, and Frances Drabot (d.1939). Louis worked for the New York Central Railroad.
