Father Vincent Valiaveettil SDB., died aged 67, on Easter Sunday, April 4, 2010, at the Provincial House of Kolkata surrounded by many Salesian confreres. Earlier, on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday, services were conducted in his room, participated by his own community members. The end came at 3.45 pm., while the confreres from the Provincial House and the nearby communities assisted him with prayer and care.

He had been suffering from cancer for about two years and was serious in his last few days.

Father Vincent professed as a Salesian on April 10, 1963, and was ordained to the priesthood on December 16, 1972.

A Mass was celebrated for the repose of his soul at 6.30 pm., on Easter Sunday, at the Provincial House chapel, in which many religious and lay faithful participated.

At 2.00 pm., on Wednesday, April 7, the funeral ceremonies began at Bandel Basilica, in the presence of over 80 Salesian Confreres with representatives from New Delhi and other Provinces. Many members of the Salesian family, as well as his own dear ones were present. The parishioners of Malbassey came in large numbers to honour their pastor.

The Provincial in his homily, after giving a life sketch of Fr. Vincent, highlighted some of his outstanding qualities namely, his love for the poor, his availability for the missions and his life of deep faith and surrender in the midst of great suffering.
