"Mrs. Catherine Reber was born at Accident, Garret county (sic), Maryland, January 28, 1861, and departed this life at Hastings, Nebraska, November 27, 1933 at the age of 72 years and 10 months. She was the daughter of John and Catherine Simon and one of a family of eighteen.
At the age of five years she came with her parents to near Springfield, Illinois, where she spent her girlhood days. When she was twenty-two years old she came to Humboldt, Nebraska, to visit a sister. While there she met Samuel Reber to whom she was married December 6, 1883. Had she remained with us another week she would htve (sic) seen her golden wedding anniversary.
In the autmn of 1884 she and her young husband moved the Nuckolls county (sic), Nebraska, where they lived on a farm eight miles northwest of Nelson. Here they reared their family and resided until they moved to Hastings in 1917.
She was converted and joined the Evangelical church (sic) at Nelson during the pastorate of Rev. J.P. Ash. Since ressiding in Hastings she and Mr. Reber have been faithful to their church. She attended religious services as long as she was able. For more than a year she knew that the inevitable was approaching and talked freely of the coming end with a spirit of preparedness that characterized the spiritual side of her life. She said again and again that she was ready to go, and seemed happy in the trust that He who said, "I go to prepare a place for you," would fulfill his promise to her.
Her faithful husband,, (sic0 by whose side she has walked through the years, and who found no sacrifice too great or service too ardous, and a number of the children and grandchildren were by their side at parting.
Left to mourn her departure are four daughters: Mrs. Cora Glasson, Lawrence, Nebraska; Mrs. Matie Campbell, Beaver Crossing, Nebraska; Mrs. Vergie Brookhart, Hastings, Nebraska; Mrs. Bernice Shay, Denman, Nebraska. She leaves also one brother, J.P. Simon of East St. Louis; and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Browning of Waggoner, Illinois; and Mrs. Alice Didlock, Parkman, Montana. There are seventeen grand children and three great grand children. One great grand child has passed on, this being the only death in the family during the nearly 50 years of marriend (sic) life.
Funeral service was held at the Grace Evangelical church (sic) i Hastings, Nebraska, November 29, 1933, conducted by J.A. Adams, pastor, who was assisted by F.C. Shuldt of the St. Paul Lutheran church (sic). The Scripture Text, Rev. 22:14. Furnishing the music, were: Mrs. Hazel Michael and Grace Knapp with Alice Anderson at the piano. The pall bearers were: L.N. Huxtable, Milo Fink, C.E. Painter, John Paris, and Glen Hedden.
