Arthur L Bakewell
Arthur L Bakewell, 80, of Brownsville, died Wednesday July 31, 2002. Mr Bakewell was born Jan 12, 1922, in Brownsville, a son of the late Lawrence and Ruth Teasdale Bakewell. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church California, PA. A graduate of the Brownsville High School Class of 1938 Mr Bakewell was an Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America. He attended the U S Military Academy at West Point, and earned a bachelor's degree and two master's degrees from Calif State College.
Bakewell retired from the U S Army after serving 27 years. Among his numerous awards were the American Campaign Medal for serving during WW II, the Bronze Star for valor in combat in the Korean War, and the Legion of Merit for meritorious service in the Vietnam War. He then worked as Director of Veteran Affairs for 20 years at Calif University of PA. Additional duties included International student advisor, students with disabilities advisor, and Counseling Center coordinator. He received the John R Gregg Award for Loyalty and Service, the Phi Delta Cappa Distinguished Service Award and the Emeritus Faculty Award for continued service to the University.
He was preceded in death by his wife Isabelle Jeffries Bakewell, one son Ben-Art Bakewell, one sister Eizabeth Meese and one brother, Lawrence Eugene Bakewell.
Friends will be received in the Skirpan Funeral Home Brownsville on Satuarday and Sunday, Aug 3rd and 4th, from 2 to 4,and 6 to 9 PM. Funeral services will be held Monday Aug 5th at 10am with the Rev John Rankin officiating.
