Mary Fern (Abbott) Harrell, 95, of Monticello, IN, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, September 18, 2019. She was born September 12, 1924 in Monticello, IN, daughter of Guy and Vella (Ritchey) Abbott.

Mary was a 1942 graduate of Lebanon High School. She met Maurice E. Harrell, her husband to be in North Vernon, IN; they were married in November of 1946. Before retiring, Mary was employed with Western Union for more than 50 years.

Mary loved the Lord and enjoyed traveling with the Colonial Hills Senior Saints from church. She also liked to spend time on the pontoon, boating on Lake Freeman. Mary had interest in collecting a variety of treasures, such as tea pots, dolls and Emmett Kelly clowns.

Mary was known for wearing beautiful hats, always dressed to the nines and of course loved her mink coat. Her special smile was endearing, drawing people to her magnetic personality.

In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice E. Harrell; brothers, Clayton Abbott and Leo Abbott; sisters, Lois Brock and Virginia Kuhlman.

Survivors include her children, Ronald (Sheila) Harrell of Monticello, Steven (Amee) Harrell of Lanesville, and Peggy (Larry) McMillan of Carmel; 5 grandchildren, Craig (Christa) Harrell, Gary (Stacia) Harrell, Merrilee (Jon) Ghodes, J.M. Park McMillan, and Abby (Stephen) Crawford; 4 great-grandchildren, Tyler (MacKenzie) Harrell, Tony Harrell, Jarin Harrell, and Shea Harrell; 1 step-great granddaughter, Brittany Fleming; and 1 great-great granddaughter, Nora Kate Harrell.

Family and friends will gather at 10:00 am on Monday, September 23, 2019 in Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 8140 Union Chapel Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240 where the Funeral Service will begin at 12 noon.

Following the service, a Committal Service will be held at 2:30 pm in Oak Hill Cemetery, 935 E. Washington Street, Lebanon, IN 46052.

In memory of Mary, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 50 E 91st St #100, Indianapolis, IN 46240. Envelopes will be available at the service.
