Abe Klugman - SAVANNAH - Abe Klugman--devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend-- passed away on February 16, 2011. Known for his great sense of humor and bright, sunny smile, Abe never met a stranger. He provided many chuckles and stories along his way, and will be very much missed by his family and friends. Born on September 4, 1923 in Savannah, he graduated from Commercial High in 1941. Abe was a proud member of the U.S. Navy; and served on the warship Bataan, which has gone down in history as making a major difference in World War II. He was awarded several medals of distinction. He was a member of the Jewish Educational Alliance, B'nai B'rith Jacob Synagogue, and the Jewish War Veterans. Abe's most prized possession was his family and friends. His love of sports earned him the fond nickname of "Guru." He adored animals, and could coax wild ones to eat near him, acquiring another nickname, "Dr. Dolittle." He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Doris; his children and their spouses - Murray (Joanne Seymour), Sheri (Hal), Danny (Susan), and David (Susan); five grandchildren - Jarin Simon, Alli and Matt Klugman, Kallie and Kyle Klugman; and several nieces and nephews that were very dedicated to him. He was predeceased by his grandson Zachary Simon. The funeral service will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the graveside, Bonaventure Cemetery, conducted by Rabbi Avigdor Slatus. The family will observe Shiva at the family's home on Wheeler Street.
