great-great-grandchild of Christopher
In 1841, Margaret along with her mother and brother Casper, emigrated to the USA. It is reported that they crossed the ocean in an open boat which took them 60 days on the high seas. After landing at Baltimore, MD, by some mistake they missed Christopher (her father) at the port. They then sailed to New York, where they again missed Christopher. From there they traveled to Pittsburgh, PA, from that city to some place in MD believed to be Cumberland, where they walked through Bedford to Berlin, PA. Here they learned that Christopher had located in Elk Lick and they started to walk there. Meanwhile, Christopher learned that his wife and children had arrived in Berlin and he started for that place. They met on the road near Pine Hill at a farm then occupied by Henry Miller. After the family finally got together they lived at several different sites, one being Hays Mills - where Margaret supposedly met her future husband. Margaret married Philip and they settled on a piece of land just north of Shultz Distillery, along what is now Route 160, south of Berlin. The old log cabin, where they raised their family was dismantled and relocated to Davidsville where it was re-erected and possibly still stands? It could be seen from Route 219 on the NW side of the road as late as 1976. Margaret and Philip were members of the Pine Hill Church, and all of their children were baptized there.
