Major League Baseball Player, Manager. Born Joseph Filmore Frazier, he was signed as an amateur free agent by Cleveland in 1941 and marked his Major League debut with the Indians on August 31st, 1947; he appeared in 9 games that year. For parts of four seasons (1947, 1954 to 1956), he played at the outfielder position with the Indians, St. Louis Cardinals, Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles; in 217 career games, he recorded 68 hits with a .241 lifetime batting average. He finished-out his playing career in the Minor Leagues, which concluded in 1960, and served as a scout with the Houston Colt.45s/Astros organization from 1961 to 1965. This was followed with a ten-year period as a Minor League manager, before returning to the Major League level as manager of the New York Mets (1976 to 1977). In 1976, Frazier guided the Mets to a 86 win 76 loss record and a third place finish in the National League East Division behind Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The following year, after a 15 win 30 loss start to the season Frazier was dismissed and succeeded by Joe Torre.
