Catherine Arnest Forsyth, 94, departed this life Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011. The daughter of Thomas Maund Arnest II and Bernice Halley Arnest, she was born in 1916 at Nomini Hall, Robert "Counselor" Carter's ancestral home, in Westmoreland County.

Better known as "Kitty," she received her secondary education at Cople School in Hague and attended The College of William and Mary, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
In 1938, she married J. Frank Forsyth III and raised their family in Front Royal. Relocating with Frank to Staunton in 1964, she was employed in the Bank of America Trust Department until her retirement in 1981.
Mrs. Forsyth was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for 46 years and was active in her community. She supported numerous local charities, including Augusta Regional SPCA and Valley Mission, and she participated in the local Meals On Wheels program, delivering meals to shut-ins.
Mrs. Forsyth is survived by Frank, her husband of 72 years, and three children, Susan Parsley of Moneta, Bea Oettinger and her husband, Melvin, of Charlotte, N.C., and Lt. Col. (retired) John Forsyth and his wife, Leslie, of Colorado; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
During 11 o'clock worship Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, Trinity Episcopal Church will take a moment to honor Catherine's selfless service.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance contributions are suggested to local organizations dear to Kitty's heart: Trinity Episcopal Church, Augusta Regional SPCA or a charity of your choice.

Catherine Arnest Forsyth, 94, departed this life Saturday, February 12, 2011, in Staunton, Va. Additionally, she supported numerous local charities, including community animal welfare organizations.

A Service of Committal was held on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11AM at the Forsyth gravesite in Prospect Hill with a large gathering of family and friends. The Committal Service was led by the Rev. Deborah Rutter of Calvary Episcopal Church. Immediately following a reception to honor the life of Catherine Arnest Forsyth was held at the Blue Ridge Shadows Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites. John Forsyth had prepared a wonderful tribute to his mother using a computer slideshow which ran throughout the reception showing the life of Catherine, Frank and her family heritage.
