From the Adrian Daily Telegram, May 13, 1902, before Baker's death: " (grave decorators) there saw one new monument, interesting from the fact that the one whose name it bears (Amos Baker) is living and believes in no after life. The monument is heart shaped and on one side is cut the name and date of birth with the Latin inscription, "Meo voto" ("By my vow") while on the other side is, "Pro Deo et populo", or "God and the people."
