SARAH SWARTS IN MEMORIUM
Sarah Jane Swarts was born at Alburg, Vt., April 16, 1853. She passed from this life at the home of her son near Aurora, Ia., Thursday, Sept. 28, 1922, at 5 p. m., being 69 years, 5 mo.,12 days of age.
Deaceased was the eldest child of Alexander and Nancy Allen. In early childhood she came with her parents to Iowa settling near Hazleton, Buchanan County. She was united in marriage to John Swarts in Independence on October 1871. Their married life was spent on farms in Buchanan and Fayette Counties until ten years ago last April when they moved to Oelwein, Ia. where Dec. 4, 1914, the husband was called in death. Since then she has made her home in Oelwein. On Sept. 17 she was taken suddenly ill at the home of her son Peter, where all that loving hands and tender care could do for her was done but an allwise Father saw fit to call another of his children home.
Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Swarts, ten of whom are left to mourn the loss of a devoted mother. One daughter passed away at the age of five weeks. The living children are Fred, Charles W., Herbert, Mrs. Rose McKinney, Peter, Martin, Mrs. Elizabeth Kirby, John, Bertie, and Mrs. Dolly Sheldon. The children all reside in or near Oelwein except Fred who lives near Green Island, Iowa, Peter near Aurora, Ia., and Mrs. Dollie Sheldon of Cedar Rapids, Charles and Bertie still reside at home. She leaves twenty grand-children, also five sisters and a brother, Mrs. Jennie Wilson and Frank of Calif., Mrs. Marie Reynolds of Nebr., Mrs. Electa Adams of Iowa, Mrs. Lillie Sanders of Oelwein.
She was always an industrious, hard working woman, optimistic and cheerful disposition bringing good cheer to the discouraged. She was always generous and kind hearted, willing to do for anyone in need. She will be greatly missed by many sincere friends and by her family.
The last services were held from the Grace M. E. Church Sunday at 2:30 p. m. conducted by Rev. Clark.
