epitaph (as inscribed, includes sp. errors):

"Why should we say 'tis yet two soon,
To seek for Heaven or think of death,
A flower may fade before 'tis noon,
And I think this day may (*lose?) my breath."

*[The last stanza of the verse seems to have been scraped away due to an earlier mistake on the cutters part and obscures some of the words in that line.]
