Milton Buchanan, 94, of Newland the Powdermill Community passed away Saturday February 19, 2011 at his residence. A native of Avery County he was a son of the late Taylor and Janette Goforth Buchanan. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was retired from the Tar Heel Mica Company. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Binia McKinney Buchanan.
Survivors include two daughters; Jean Puckett of Banner Elk, and Hazel Vance of Newland, and two sisters; Wanda Ollis of Everette, WA and Betty Thompson of Spruce Pine. He is also survived by three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Buchanan will be conducted at 8:00 pm Monday February 21, 2011 in the Grindstaff Memorial Chapel of Webb Funeral Home with the Revs. Ron Greene and Jack Jones officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm until the service hour at the funeral home. Interment will be held at 10:00 am Tuesday in the Yellow Mountain Cemetery.
