Theresa Jilek was born in Bohemia on January 26, 1872, daughter of Joseph Jilek and Mary Kurpicek Jilek. She married John Mehulky in Bohimia in 1890. They came to the US in June of 1892. They left because they were running from the war. They traveled across the US in frieghtcars and saw many Indians along the way. They farmed on the homestead in Dunn County North Dakota (New Hradec area) Township 140 N Range 95 W. Theresa would hide an axe in the rootcellar to protect her children. The had eleven children, one infant died in Bohemia. Theresa passed away on December 15, 1928. She was preceeded in death by three infant children and her husband John Mehulky.
