Husband of Mary Snell Wheelwright, married at Wells,ME on Jan 28,1688/9.

Son of Samuel Wheelwright and Esther Houchin/Hutchins Wheelwright of Wells,ME.

Children: John Wheelwright Jr, Samuel Wheelwright, Hannah Wheelwright Plaisted, Esther Wheelwright, Jeremiah Wheelwright, Elizabeth Wheelwright Alcock Newmarch, Mary Wheelwright Moody, Katherine Wheelwright, Nathaniel Wheelwright, Sarah Wheelwright Jefferds, Job Wheelwright, and Lydia Wheelwright.

His daughter Esther, when only seven years of age, was captured by the Abenaquis and was eventually ransomed to priests in Canada. Col.Wheelwright endeavored to secure her return or exchange, to no avail. Some years later, she was baptized in to the Roman Catholic faith, and afterwards became Mother Superior of the Ursuline Convent in Quebec. She has been said to have nursed Gen Montcalm before his death and burial at the Chapel of the Ursuline Sisters. Her story can be found HERE and HERE.

Here lyes Interred the Body of the Honorable John Wheelwright, Esq., who departed this Life August ye 13th, 1745, aged 81 years.
