Edwin Good
Edwin Paul Good, 75, died peacefully on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at his home in Murphy.
On March 16, 1935, Edwin was born to Abraham and Anna Good at their home on Greenhurst Road, Nampa. As a young man Edwin memorized Matthew 5, 6, and 7, and believed the Sermon on the Mount was not a suggestion, but a directive on how to live one's life. Consequently, in 1954, he went to Germany as a Conscientious Objector with the Mennonite Central Committee to build homes for the German refugees from Russia.
Ed married Betty Hochstetler on Dec. 27, 1957. Their first home was near Kuna. They farmed in the Nampa, Kuna, Melba and Grandview communities and enjoyed being part of each one.
Ed and Betty moved to Murphy in 1985 where Ed continued his love of God's good earth by nurturing his garden and sharing flowers and vegetables with family and friends.
His innovative and gardening skills were useful at the Kagisong Refugee Center, Botswana and at Bukuumi, Uganda, where he and Betty volunteered with M.C.C. from 1992-95.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; by two sons, H. Nathaniel (Lavonne) Good of Grandview and Jeffrey D. (Vivian) Good of Melba; by grandchildren, Jacob (Wendy), Chad, Katie, Tyler, Micah, Crystal, and Amber Good; by sisters, Elizabeth Kauffman, Martha Yoder, and Ester Vi Good; by sisters-in-law, June Good, Marie Hauder, Elvera Hochstetler, Ardis and brother-in-law, Howard Wilson, and also many nieces.
Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; four siblings, Henry, Miriam, Rhoda, and James A. Good; by brothers-in-law, Tillman Kauffman, Sanford Yoder, and Clayton Hauder, and by nephews, Ron Moyer and David Wilson.
His family was important to Ed. He enjoyed family gatherings and the annual family hunting/camping trips in the high mountain country. He leaves many friends in Germany, Africa, across the U.S., in the Corpus Christi community, Maxwell Hoffman at IMSI, and fellow members of the Idaho Mennonite churches. He was a member of Emmaus Mennonite Church, which meets at 1705 W. Pine Ave., Meridian.
A family burial at the Melba cemetery will precede the memorial service. The burial is overseen by Zeyer Funeral Home, 83 N. Midland Blvd., Nampa. 467-7300. There will be a memorial service held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at the Brethren Church, 11030 Orchard Ave., Nampa.
Contributions in Ed's memory may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 21 S. 12th St., PO Box 500, Akron, PA 17501.
