Services for Charles "Ray" Allen, 76, of Lufkin, were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000 in the Gipson-Metcalf Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Garden o Memories Memorial Park.

Mr. Allen was born Sept. 17, 1924, in Lufkin and died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000 in a Lufkin hospital. Mr. Allen was a lifelong resident of Lufkin. He graduated from Hudson High School and served in the U S Navy during World War II. Mr. Allen retired from Champion International in 1989 after 42 years of service; he worked as an assistant superintendent of technical service dapartment. Mr. Allen was a member of Dunn's Chapel Church of Christ and had served as pastor there from January of 1978 to June of 1996; he also pastored at Fourth and Groesbeck Church of Christ, Union Road Church of Christ, Bald Hill Church of Christ, Wells Church of Christ and Diboll Church of Christ.

Survivors: wife, Hallie Thompson Allen of Lufkin; daughter, Emily Allen of Lufkin; daughter and son-in-law, Deneice and Jay Winn of Marquez; brother, Coy Allen of Midland; brother and sister-in-law, Garnie and Pauline Allen of Lufkin; grandsons, Dave Slack of Laguna Beach, Calif., and Brad Slack of Houston; grandson, Thompson Myers and his wife, Beth of Groesbeck; granddaughter, Teresa Raynell Fullen of Waco; great-grandsons, Barrett and Blaine Myers of Groesbeck; sisters-in-law, Mary Lois Allen, Ethel Allen, Minnie Ann Thompson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Basil and Helen eynolds, Jesse and Nell Cox and Grady and Mildred Crain; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, James W. and Minnie Lee Stephens Allen; sister, George Allen Reeves and brotherr, Otis Allen, Elton Allen, Roy Allen and Oscar Allen.
