The correct spelling of her first name is elusive. It's spelled in government records and family trees as Elzina, Elvina, Alzina, Alzira, Alvira, Eliza, etc. Her maiden name is also variously listed as Huffman, Caldwell or Ruble in government records and family trees, but most trees list it as Ruble since her mother was Martha Ruble (who later married James Hector Huffman), and also because she was listed as Alzira Ruble (age 7) in the 1850 census (living with her grandmother, Rebecca Ruble).

Elzira married John Mayberry/Mabury Abbott on 10 January 1866 in Craig Co., VA, and they were blessed with 12 children, 6 boys and 6 girls, but 3 died in infancy (2 unnamed girls and son James). They had been married for almost 55 years when she passed away at age 77; he joined her in the hereafter 7 months later, and was buried next to her. Besides John and their children, Elzira was survived by a plethora of grandkids, great-grandkids, nephews and nieces.
