Daniel Shanahan, son of Joseph Shanahan and Margaret Shanahan, formerly Sullivan, was born on 6 February 1898 at 33, Cove Street, Cork.
His father was a Van Driver.
in the 1911 census, the Shanahan family were living at 6, William Street, Midleton, Co. Cork. The family lived in a three roomed apartment on the first floor of the building, which was rented from Viscount Midleton.
present were,
Joseph Shanahan, aged 44, a General Labourer.
Margaret, his wife, aged 38.
They had been married 15 years, and had 8 children all of whom were alive.
Daniel, son, aged 13.
William, son, aged 11.
Margaret, daughter, aged 7.
Johannah, daughter, aged 6.
Josephine, daughter, aged 5.
Mary Anne, daughter, aged 3.
Edmund Joseph, son, aged 1.
All members of the family were born in County Cork.

Daniel Shanahan, aged 21, a Soldier, died on 21 December 1918 at Cork Fever Hospital.
The cause of death was Acute Meningitis, 10 days, certified.∼DIED OF WOUNDS RECEIVED
